Le Glacetronome

Le Glacetronome is Baudouin Lénelle’s ice cream parlour in Namur. He makes artisan ice cream, and as with any craftsman, the story behind the product matters: the ingredients, the seasonal flavours, the way he works.

The website had to tell that story while answering the practical questions: where is the parlour, when is it open, which flavours are available? We built a calm, visual site where the photos of the ice cream do the work.

The interesting part came with the festive season. For Christmas, Le Glacetronome makes ice cream bûches, and every order used to be noted separately. We added a seasonal web shop that only opens over Christmas. Customers order their bûche online, and after the holidays the shop closes and the regular site remains.

The site stays simple all year and becomes a sales channel in December. According to Baudouin, bûche sales have risen since the integrated shop arrived, and he doesn’t have to maintain a full web shop for a product he sells only a few weeks a year.

Last Christmas season the shop took 1,661 orders online. In December the site draws about six times more visitors than in an ordinary winter month, and three in four arrive on a phone: people order their bûche in between other things.
