La Ferme de l’Espinette Bio is the Ghaye family’s organic farm and mill in Beauvechain, in Walloon Brabant. They combine organic farming with their own mill, and their flour goes to local bakers such as Nature de Pain in Spy.

This project didn’t start with a design but with a workshop. A farm with a mill, direct sales and professional buyers has several kinds of customer, and a website works differently for each. So we first sat down together around a Business Model Canvas: who are the customers, what do they come for, what deserves the most attention on the site? Only then did we start building.

That groundwork shaped the structure. The website presents the farm and the family, explains how grain becomes flour, and makes clear the difference between what individuals can buy directly at the farm and what bakers and other professionals can order.

For us this is the example of why a good conversation beforehand achieves more than a quick start. The Ghaye family got a site that fits their business, not an average farm.
