Website for medical practices

Website for medical practices

A medical practice website should answer the practical questions patients phone about: who works there, how to make an appointment, the opening hours and what to do outside them. Atelier Web has built and refreshed sites for a group practice in Bierbeek and a medical centre in Chaumont-Gistoux, and writes in English, Dutch and French.

What we hear

  • The phone line is busy all morning with questions the website could answer.
  • New patients cannot see which doctors take new patients or which languages they speak.
  • Expat patients in Brussels and Leuven look for a practice where they can be helped in English.
  • Contact forms attract spam, and patient messages get lost between the junk.
  • Each team member has a different way of booking, and patients do not know which one applies.

What should a medical practice website contain?

Start with what patients phone about. Opening hours, how to make an appointment, what to do in the evening, at night and at weekends, and the address with parking and accessibility. Put those on the homepage.

Then the team. One card per doctor, nurse or therapist, with discipline, consultation days and languages. Say clearly whether someone is taking new patients.

Add a page for new patients: how to register, what to bring, how records are transferred. Then a contact page with a form that works and does not ask for medical details by email.

Keep medical content general. The site informs and guides; it does not replace a consultation. An English version of the practical pages is often the most valued addition for practices with international patients.

How do customers find a medical practice online?

Patients search when they move, when their doctor retires or when they need a specific service. “GP Bierbeek new patients”, “blood test Chaumont-Gistoux”, “English-speaking doctor Leuven”. Google shows a map first, so your Google Business Profile must carry correct hours, the right phone number and a link to the site.

Your website then answers the follow-up questions: who works there, which languages, whether you take new patients, how to book. Pages that name your town and the surrounding villages help you appear for local searches.

People increasingly ask AI assistants for “a doctor near me who speaks English”. The assistants rely on pages that state languages, services and location in plain sentences.

How does Atelier Web build a medical practice website?

Louis starts with a conversation with the person who coordinates the practice. Which questions clog the phone, how booking works, what the team wants patients to know. The proposal follows from that.

Two projects show the range. Adelante Groepspraktijk in Bierbeek, with Sonja Custers, needed a technical refresh: forms that work and a captcha against spam. Louis met the practice through the Bierbeek business association.

Louis writes factual copy and the practice checks it. Sites are built in Dutch, French or English.

What does a medical practice website cost?

The quote follows your request and a short call. The main factors are the size of the team, the number of disciplines, the link with a booking tool, forms, the number of languages and whether team photos need taking. A technical refresh of an existing site is a smaller job than a new site.

Every quote covers design, copy, the build, the link with Google and a handover so you can update the team and hours yourself. The yearly maintenance package covers hosting, WordPress updates and backups.

How can a practice website reduce phone calls?

By answering the five questions the phone is used for. Are you open, can I get an appointment, who is on duty tonight, do you take new patients, where do I park. If those answers are on the homepage and correct, part of the morning calls disappear.

Put the most-asked question in large type, keep hours identical on the site and on Google, and explain booking once rather than per person. Ask the reception team which questions come up most before you write to Louis, and the quote will be built around them.

03Frequently asked questions

Questions medical practices ask about their website

What should a medical practice website include?

The team with disciplines and languages, how to make an appointment, opening hours, what to do outside hours, and the address with parking and accessibility. Keep medical information general and refer patients to their doctor for advice.

Can my practice website link to an online booking system?

Yes. Atelier Web links your site to the booking tool you already use, with one clear explanation of how booking works for each team member.

How do I stop spam through our contact form?

With a captcha and a few simple measures on the form. Adelante Groepspraktijk in Bierbeek had exactly this fixed during a technical refresh of its forms.

Are there rules on what a medical practice can say on its website?

Yes. Healthcare providers in Belgium must follow the healthcare and consumer legislation on information and advertising, and their professional body often adds its own ethics rules; for doctors, that is the Order of Physicians. Information must be truthful, objective and not misleading. Atelier Web keeps the copy factual and asks you to check it with your professional body or the RIZIV/INAMI. This is not legal advice.

Should our practice website be in English too?

If you see international patients, an English page with practical information helps a lot. Atelier Web works in English, Dutch and French.

Do I have to do updates or backups myself?

No. Atelier Web keeps WordPress and the plugins up to date, makes backups and watches security. You notice nothing, except that your site keeps working.
